Try a smile once and a while

Happy NY to all! I was all excited about being a new blogger and then it took me weeks to post my 2nd one, so my 2009 resolution is to keep up with my blog at least once a week. Of course there is also the "work out and eat right" resolution...so we'll see if I can break my non-committment to resolutions pattern.

The urge to blog today was promted by a situation at work. I work with many personalities, some I like, some I dislike, some I tolerate. Of course this is a public forum, so I will not comment on anyone in particular. I just find it comical the things in life that get others so worked up or bent out of shape. The drama that can be created over a simple mistake is ridiculous!

I reflect on my own personal situation and I have a A LOT of stuff going on in my world, nothing life ending, but enough to cause the average everyday person a fair amount of stress and heartache at times, but I go along my happy-go-lucky way and deal with it. I always try to present an outward positive image (most of the time). I try to smile and be happy around those surround, not to bring them down even when I may be feeling that way. Some people just have that negative vibe about them, even through emails. I know not everyone can be happy all the time, not even me, but for the love of god - Don't be such a Debbie Downer all the time! Even though you may be miserable in your role at work, or your personal life, try a smile once in a while...it may do you more good than you know!

On a side note: There is one co-worker that I do respect and like a lot, and she may even be reading this blog :) She is someone that, from where I sit, takes a lot of crap on a daily basis but always remains professional and accomodating to the ones complaining. Here is an example of someone that always tries to present a positive image, no matter how frustrated or pissed off she may be! So to you - thank you for who you are & all you do!

When it Rains it Pours!

I have finally decided to join the word of blogging! Please cut me some slack for my first run at this.

For most of you, this may not be the most sexy of blogs to read, but my life as I know it has become freakin' hilarious lately with my run of unfortunate circumstances (or as some would say "bad luck"). Most of the happenstances actually happened to my husband, but since we are married, it's our world, not just his.

I feel in the grand scheme of things I am a pretty lucky person: a GREAT family, including a funny, patient & loving husband and an absolutely wonderful and active 2 yr old son, a great job, supportive friends, and nice home to live in. All the basic necessities to make up an enjoyable, fun, and happy world. It is by no means "perfect" but looking from the outside in, I look pretty lucky. However lately...not so lucky!

Today's unfortunate incident (or some might call a stupid mistake) that cost me $105, is why I have decided to start writing. If nothing else, it will help me handle the stress that I am currently feeling and keep me from chugging shots of Gran Marnier every night.

If I recall correctly, the string of misfortunes started back in November when my husband got laid off. It was quite a shock, and of course scary with a mortgage, 2 car payments, and a 2 yr old. This may however turn into a blessing in disguise, as we are starting a new company working in the mobile marketing space (www.jetsettr.com - currently under construction).

Shortly after this happened, my husband came down with pneumonia and was sick for about 2 weeks. I won't bore you with the details, but it wasn't fun for him, or I watching him look and feel so horrible.

Then we had a couple of weeks that seemed to be mellowing out or at least nothing major and then we lost power in the ice storm for 4 days. Luckily we were able to stay with my in laws, but not fun paying $1000 for a generator to keep the house warm and the pipes from freezing!

This past Wednesday we learned that my husband will need surgery on his ankle from a Military related injury. This will be his 3rd ankle surgery in 5 years, 2nd surgery on that particular ankle. It will most likely be in January, just in time for "Crutches on Ice" starring my husband! This means I will be responsible for all the driving in the house including drop off and pick up from day care, household shopping, and Dr's visits to Boston for about 2 months I am guessing.

Deep breath...

So today, in the midst of feeling down about the above mentioned events and depressed that we have to cut Christmas gifts this year, except for my son, I made a very costly and blond error. I won't take you step by step through the details, but let's just say I was in a rush this am and I poured windshield washer fluid into the coolant container in our truck and it cost me $105 to have it flushed and re-filled.

I have a lot to be thankful for this Holiday Season and I know that these are not devastating events by any means, but all I can say is When it Rains it Pours!
